Ingredients:  
Ingredients:  
1/2 to 3/4 pound pkg lentils (pick over, wash and drain)
1 c. chopped, peeled carrots
1 c. chopped celery
1 c. chopped onions
1 T. finely chopped green pepper
3/4 c. tomato paste
1/2 tsp. pepper (no salt if using ham bone or ham chunks)
2 T. snipped parsley or flakes
1 clove garlic, minced
1 T dried basil or 1 bay leaf
3 1/2 c. chicken broth and/or water to cover and to give right consistency for soup
Ham bone or ham chunks (some recipes use 1 lb. ground chuck browned)

Directions:
Directions:
Place all ingredients in large pot and bring to boil and simmer about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Adjust salt, etc., to your taste.
CROCK POT: Combine all ingredients and cook on low for 9 to 10 hours. Remove ham bone or chunks and cut up meat; return to cooker and bring back to hot and then serve.
