3 cups whole wheat flour (sifted)
2 cups all purpose flour
1 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cut into cubes, room temperature
2 1/2 cups buttermilk
1 large egg
1 tablespoon vanilla


Directions:

Combine and mix Flour, Baking Soda, Baking Powder, Sugar, and Salt.

Mix in the cubes of butter with hands. Rub into the mixture until well blended.

Whisk the egg, vanilla, and buttermilk together in a separate bowl

Combine the dry and the wet ingredients together and blend well. Form into a ball and place into a butter baking pan.

Cook at 350 F for about an hour (until a knife inserted into the middle comes out clean)
