51/2c flour unsifted
1 T Baking Powder
11/2c sugar
4 eggs
3/4 c butter
1/2c milk
1tsp lemon extract
1tsp anise extract

Directions:
Directions:
Place flour in large bowl; cut in butter w/pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in sugar, baking powder until well blended.
In small bowl lightly beat eggs w/milk & extracts. Add to flour mixture, stirring until all flour is moistened. Turn out on a well floured surface, and knead until smooth.
Refrigerate, covered 1 hour. Preheat oven to 325. Cut off small piece of dough, and roll it on lightly floured surface into pencil-thin strip 6" long. Twist in loose knot or braid, and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Repeat until all dough is used.

Bake 20 minutes, or until lightly browner. Remove to rack; cool. Cookies can be decorated w/your favorite Christmas frosting and candies.

This recipe has been in my family for generations. I have fond memories of these cookies sitting on the table with about a dozen other varieties at Christmas time. They take tine, but are well worth it. I usually dip the warm cookies in milk and then into a bowl of candy decorations; and some I frost and decorate.
