1 1/2 cup self rising corn meal
1 handfull self rising flour
1/2 tsp sugar
pinch of salt
1 egg
2 Tbs. vegetable oil
1 cup buttermilk
water (for consistency)
1 pk pepperidge Farm herb dressing
2 cans chicken broth
1 stick butter
1 large onion chopped
2 cups celery chopped
rubbed sage to taste (generous amount)
salt and pepper to taste

Cornbread:
Preheat oven to 450. Heat cast-iron skillet with oil. Mix all ingredients and pour into hot skillet. Fry until top begins to show small holes. Bake for 30 minutes.
Stuffing:
Saute celery, and onion in butter until translucent. Melt stick of butter in chicken stock. Add herb dressing, onion and celery. Pinch up cornbread and add to butter mixture. Add remaining ingredients. Bake 350 º for 45 minutes or until golden brown.

This has been a family favorite handed down for generations. My grandmother, Mama Jule (Julia Shackleton Richmond), passed it to my mother, "'Emeee" (Emmy Sparks Richmond), and she passed it to me. Mama always told me the secret is in the cornbread.
