2 lbs stew beef (or diced steak)
5 potatoes
1 sweet onion
2 carrots
2 bay leaves
1 cup of wine (red or white)
Salt and pepper

Directions:
Directions:
Brown the stew beef in a frying pan.
Put in a crock pot of 3 cups of water
Add 1 cup of wine
Dice up potatoes, carrots and onion and put into the crock pot
Add the bay leaves. (These can be taken out before eating.)
Cook on high setting for 2-3 hours then lower setting and cook another 5-6 hours.
Thicken with flour as required.

If you find the gravy has a bland taste, add some beef broth.

To thicken, mix flour and cold water together, stir until there are no lumps and add slowly to the stew.
