1-1/2 CUPS WATER
3 CUPS SUGAR
1-1/2 CUPS CORN SYRUP
2 TSP. VANILLA
BUTTER, SIZE OF AN EGG
1 HEAPING TSP. BAKING SODA, DISSOLVED IN WATER

Directions:
PUT SUGAR, CORN SYRUP AND WATER IN A SAUCEPAN AND COOK ON HOT FIRE AND STIR UNTIL IT STARTS TO BOIL. COVER AND LET STEAM WELL. REMOVE COVER AND COOK UNTIL IT FORMS A HARD BALL IN WATER. PUT IN PEANUTS AND BUTTER, STIRRING CONSTANTLY UNTIL BROWN OR UNTIL PEANUTS POP OPEN. REMOVE FROM FIRE. STIR IN SODA AND VANILLA AND POUR ON BUTTERED SLAB AND STRETCH AS SOON AS COOL ENOUGH. BREAK INTO PIECES.

MY MOTHER USED TO MAKE THIS EVERY CHRISTMAS. I'VE NEVER TRIED TO MAKE IT, BUT NOW THAT I HAVE PUT IT IN THIS COOKBOOK I WILL ATTEMPT TO MAKE IT.
