Personal Notes:
When I first learned to cook, my mom gave me the Better Crocker Cook Book for Boys and Girls, which had a dynamite recipe for gingerbread that I’ve used ever since. It’s great warm or cool, and
I love it with this hot lemon sauce from The Boston Cooking School Cook Book by Fannie Merritt Farmer, who is credited with standardizing cooking via the “level measure” and relating good cooking to good health. Fanny Farmer chocolate stores were named in her honor by founder Frank O’Connor and later sold to the Fannie May company of Chicago. Originally small, stand-alone stores, Fanny Farmer chocolate stands were later found in malls till about 2004.
