1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. cream or tartar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Combine first 5 ingredients; mix thoroughly. Add remaining ingredients and stir until well blended. Chill dough in refrigerator for easier handling. Roll dough into 1 1/2" balls Place on lightly greased cookie sheet. Flatten balls of cough with wet glass dipped in sugar. Bake at 400º for 6-8 minutes or until golden brown and slightly glazed. Remove from baking sheet immediately after baking before they become crisp.
Store covered to keep soft.
