For Batter:
2 1/2 c. flour
1 c. sugar
2 1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
3/4 c. milk
1/2 c. margarine, softened
2 eggs, beaten








For Frosting:
1 pt. maple syrup
2 egg whites

For Batter: Mix dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Add in milk, margarine and eggs, beat for two minutes.

Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans. Pour batter into cake pans and bake in preheated 375º oven for 30 minutes. Allow to cool.

For Frosting: Heat maple syrup in a pan until it forms a soft ball stage. Beat two egg whites until stiff. Beat in syrup until smooth.

Place one layer of cake on a plate, spread icing on top. Place second layer of cake on top of first and spread icing all around edges and on top.
