1/2 cup dates cut fine
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup boiling water
1 cup white sugar
3 tbsp. butter
1 2/3 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla

TOPPING :

6 tsp. melted butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
4 tbsp. canned, cream or homo milk
1 cup coconut
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Combine dates, baking soda, and boiling water. Let stand for a few minutes. Cream together white sugar and butter. Add to the date mixture. Add remaining ingredients. Place in 9'X9" pan and bake in 350ºF oven for approx. 40 minutes. Top with the following: ( in the order given) 6 tbsp. melted butter,1/2c. brown sugar, 4 tbsp canned milk,cream or Homo milk, 1 cup coconut, 1/2 tsp vanilla. Return to oven for an extra 10 minutes. May broil for a minute to make the top brown.
