5 tbsp. melted butter
1 3/4 c. beef broth
1 1/2 tsp. minced garlic
1/2 tsp. onion powder
1/2 tsp. fresh ground pepper
2 c. sliced onions
1 1/2 c. thinly sliced apples
1/2 tsp. salt
12 oz. thinly sliced pastrami
8 slices of sourdough bread
4 oz.sliced sharp cheddar

For au jus melt 1 tbsp. butter in a saucepan. Whisk in beef broth, garlic, onion powder and 1/4 tsp. pepper. Simmer.

In a skillet melt 2 tbsp. butter on high heat. Stir in onion, apple, salt, and 1/4 tsp. pepper. cook for 7-8 min., until golden brown and tender.

Butter the eight slices of bread and divide the pastrami equally to make four sandwiches. Grill in skillet pressing down to flatten or use a panini press. Divide au-jus into 4 small bowls and serve with paninis for dipping.
