2 C dried split peas (1 lb package)
2 quarts water or chicken broth
1 ham bone ( I use the bone left after having ham dinner)
1 C minced celery
1 C chopped carrots
1 onion chopped
parsley flakes
1/4 tsp pepper
salt to taste after cooking

Directions:
Directions:
In large stew/soup pot heat peas and liquid to boiling; boil gently 2 minutes. Remove from heat, cover and let stand 1 hour. Add remaining ingredients. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Remove bone; trim meat from bone and return to soup. If desired thin with milk or water. If soup is to thin can add powdered potatoes gradually, stirring in until thickened.
