3-1/2 cubes butter, creamed well
2 c. sugar
½ tsp. soda
½ c. boiling water
2 oz. vanilla
6 eggs (well beaten)
4 c. flour
1 lb. walnuts
1 lb. mixed fruit *
1 pkg cherries
2 T. brown sugar
1 T. corn syrup
2 T. water

*(If mixed fruit is not your favorite thing, eliminate it and add an additional pkg cherries.)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar. Dissolve soda in boiling water and add to mixture. Add vanilla, beaten eggs and four cups flour. Flour nuts and fruit, then pour batter over them and stir in. Makes 2 loaves. Bake 2-1/2 hrs. at 250.

Glaze: Combine brown sugar, corn syrup, and water. Simmer 2 minutes and brush over cake.

My mom gave this fruit cake to lots of people every Christmas and even those who hated fruit cake loved this version.
