Candy thermometer
2 cups sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup water
1 cup butter or margarine
2 cups peanuts, chopped
1 tsp. baking soda

Directions:
Directions:
Butter 2 cookie sheets.
In a 3 quart saucepan, heat sugar, corn syrup and water. Stir until sugar dissolves. When syrup boils, blend in butter or margarine. Stir frequently after temperature reaches 230º. Add peanuts when temperature reaches 280º. Stir constantly to "hard crack" stage (305º).
Remove from heat. Quickly stir in baking soda, mixing well. Pour into cookie sheets. Once the candy is hard, loosen it from the pans and break into pieces.
