Templates for house: front/back; sides; roof. Make these from cereal boxes--your own design.
Your favorite gingerbread COOKIE recipe. Roll out to 1/4 inch thick. Cut house pieces from templates, as many as you need to make desired number of houses. cut out windows and doors. Bake according to directions on recipe. Let cool.
(Here at Oma's house we usually make 5 houses--3 grandchildren to a house when time to assemble and decorate.)
Tubs of frosting. Large assortment of architectural details such as: gum drops, M & M's, marshmallows, pretzels, chex cereals,candy canes, chocolate chips,LOTS of sprinkles, etc, etc. Your imagination will lead you.
Assemble the houses using frosting as glue,
Also needed--one long table covered with plastic cloth and eager, happy children who will remember this forever! --almost as long as the crunchy sprinkles last under foot.

I have the gingerbread pieces all baked and cooled. The decorating takes as long as it takes!

Here at Oma's house we have done this for many years.we have aprons for everyone, hot chocolate and/or cider to drink and aunts and uncles to help clean up! The children leave proud of their work, full of laughter and sugar.
