1 1/4 c. warm water
1/4 c. shortening
1/4 c. sugar
1 t. salt
1 T. yeast
1/3 c. powder milk
1 beaten egg
3-4 c. flour

Directions:
Sprinkle yeast over warm water to dissolve. Add sugar and shortening, salt and milk solids and 1 c. flour and mix well. Add flour till soft dough results. Knead. Let rise till double. Roll as desired. let rise till double. Bake at 400º F for 15-20 minutes.

Orange Roll Variation
Combine 6T. butter
1 c. sugar
zest of 1 orange

Cook till spreading consistency. Roll 1l3 of basic recipe dough in rectangle shape 6" wide and 3/8" thick. Spread with filling. Roll like jellyroll into a long roll, seal edge. Cut. Rise till double.Bake at 400º 15-20 minutes. Turn out immediately. Glaze if desired.
