1/2 Cup shortening
1 1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 tsp. Butter
1 1/2 oz. Red Food Color
3 T. Cocoa (Level)
2 1/2 cups sifted cake flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. salt
1 T. Vinegar
1 tsp. Soda
Frosting:
3 T. Flour
1/2 tsp. Salt
1 cup milk
1 cup shortening
1 cup Sugar
2 tsp. Vanilla
1/4 tsp. Butter flavoring

Directions:

Cake:
Cream shortening, sugar, eggs, flavoring. Make a paste of cocoa and add food coloring add to first mixture. Alternating add flour and buttermilk. Mix soda and vinegar in small bowl. Add to batter and blend.
Bake for 20-25 min at 350. Let cool completely.
Frosting:
Cook Milk, flour and salt until thick, stirring constantly. Let cool. Cream shortening and sugar very well. Add flavors and combine to first mixture.
Make sure it is mixed well.
Frost cake once completely cool.
