2 cups dried split peas
1 cup chopped onion
2-4 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons butter or oil
2 qts ham or chicken broth
1 bay leaf
4 small carrots, sliced
dash pepper
4 med. Potatoes, dices
4 stalks, celery
3 ham hocks

Cook in crock-pot for 10 hours. Blend in blender before serving. Your grandmother always used a ricer, but I don’t have one and find the blender does the job just fine.

This recipe is from “Grandma Pete” (Bertha Reller Peters actually – I’m being specific as I believe the name Grandma Pete is in use by others these days). It is actually from the back of a bag of dried peas and one of our favorites.
