Cucumbers
2 c. salt per 1 gal. water
1 tsp. powdered alum
3 cinnamon sticks
2 Tbsp. whole cloves
1 c. sugar
1 c. vinegar

Directions:
Directions:
Cut cucumbers into 1/2 inch-thick pieces. Put in stone jar. Make brine of 2 c. salt to 1 gallon of water. Pour on pickles. Let stand 3 days. Pour off and pour boiling water with 1 tsp. powdered alum. Put on fresh for 3 mornings. Pour off. Boil and pour over pickles: 1 c. sugar, 1 c. vinegar, 3 cinnamon sticks, & 2 Tbsp. whole cloves. Pour off each morning. Bring to boil and pour on again 2 mornings. Third morning, bring to boil and pour over pickles in jar. For 4 gal. jar syrup; do 8 times above recipe.
