1 c sugar
1 cube butter (not margarine)
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/3 c buttermilk (may also be made with buttermilk powder)
1 tbsp Karo syrup
1 tbsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Combine boil for 5 minutes, stirring or whisking constantly. After it comes to a rolling boil, start your timer for 4 minutes. Watch for the foam to turn to a light golden caramelly color. Then remove from the heat. It will continue to darken a little more as it cools. Be careful not to overcook. Stores well in fridge. Warm up very briefly in microwave.
