Unfortunately for me, I didn't get to spend as much time eating with Gram and Gramps as the rest of the grandkids. I was too young to appreciate their delicious recipes, but because of that I learned to appreciate the subtle touches they put into family gatherings. They always had goldfish and Cheese-Its out on the side tables, and if not, I knew I could find some snickerdoodles in one of those flower tins. I loved sitting in that blue high chair at the end of the dining table that all of the other grandchildren sat in before me. I remember looking at Gramps in awe as he would make toast during breakfast - why on earth he needed a toaster with so many knobs and levers I will never know! Those are the mealtime memories I have. And while they are small and may seem silly, they are the ones I will carry with me always.
