"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Directions:
Lightly butter a 13x9-inch pan and set aside.

In a large 4 quart saucepan or Dutch oven, heat the corn syrup and sugar over medium-high heat until it boils, stirring constantly. Continue to cook until the sugar is completely dissolved then remove from the heat.

Add 1 cup of the peanut butter and stir until the mixture is smooth.

Add the cereal and mix well.

Immediately press the cereal mixture into the buttered pan. (Damp hands may work best)

In a medium-size saucepan, set over low heat, melt the chocolate chips and 1/4 cup peanut butter, stirring the mixture constantly until it is smooth, melted, and well blended.

Remove from the heat and spread the chocolate-peanut butter mixture over the Cheerio bars.

Refrigerate the pan of Cheerio bars about 30 minutes or cool completely at room temperature, until the chocolate is set.

Cut into desired size and shape bars.
