1 lb dry split peas
8 cups water
1 meaty ham bone or 2 ham hocks
1 large onion, chopped
1 T instant chicken bouillon granules
1 bay leaf
1/4 tsp oregano
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 1/2 cups sliced carrots
1 cup chopped celery
1 1/2 cups cubed potatoes

Directions:
Directions:
Rinse peas; place in kettle. Add water, ham bone, onion, bouillon, bay leaf, oregano, garlic powder, and pepper. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours, stirring often. Remove ham bone and bay leaf. Blend soup in blender till smooth. Return to kettle. Remove meat from ham bone; chop and add to soup. Add carrots and celery and simmer for 15 minutes. Add potatoes and simmer for an additional 15 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Add additional water if soup is too thick. Makes 8 to 10 servings.
