Directions:Make dough with flour, salt and crumbled (or packaged) yeast. Add water. Mix well, let rise until double in bulk.
After doubled, punch dough down & let rise a second time till doubled in bulk.
Roll the dough into long lengths about 1/2' long. You will have quite a number of long dough lengths depending upon how thin the dough is rolled.
Then cut each length of dough into 1/2' bite sized pieces.
Place all on an oiled baking dish.
Bake at approx. 400 degrees till cooked through.
Can be stored covered in freezer till ready to serve.
To serve: Drop individual 1/2" bite-sized pieces into salted boiling water for approximately 15 - 20 minutes.
Drain.
Mix ground poppyseed and honey.
Add to heated, hot bobalki and serve. |

Notes: The cutting of the dough and the rising of the dough require patience. It is not necessary to let the dough rise a second time, however, I have found the dough gets a little lighter. This is a nice replacement for bread for a lenten meal. Also, when making the bobalki, one may also take a small portion a make a small bread for New Year's Day.
