Ingredients:
Ingredients:
Cookies:
1 cup sugar
1 cup shortening or 1/2 cup shortening & 1/2 cup butter
3 eggs, well beaten
1 cup sour cream with 1 tablespoon baking soda mixed in - will foam - mix well
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt

Butter Frosting:
6 tablespoons butter
1 one pound package powdered sugar (approx 4 3/4 cups)
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla (use white vanilla if you want a very white frosting)
1/4 cup heavy cream
skim milk

Directions:
Directions:
Cookies:
Cream sugar and shortening/butter, then add eggs and sour cream and vanilla. Stir together the flour, baking powder and salt, then add to sugar mixture. Refrigerate at least 2 hrs. Use a lot of flour when rolling out to prevent sticking - can't use too much. Roll out 1/4" thick, cut out and bake at 375 for 8 to 10 minutes, or just until barely starting to brown. Cool and frost.

Frosting:
Cream butter, gradually add 1/2 of the powdered sugar, blend well. Add cream and vanilla, then add the rest of the sugar and adjust consistency as needed with skim milk. (If using decorators bag, will want thinner. If just spreading the frosting with a knife, can have a little thicker.)
