1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
1 c. butter
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. almond extract
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
Frosting:
1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
2 1/2 T. butter
1 1/2 T. milk
1/4 tsp. vanilla or almond extract
Food coloring and assorted sprinkles

Directions:
Directions:
In a large bowl, blend sugar and butter, add egg and extracts. In a smaller bowl, mix together dry ingredients; add to butter mixture. Blend well. Refrigerate 2-3 hours. On well floured surface, roll dough to 1/4 in. in batches. Cut with cookie cutters and transfer to baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 7-8 minutes at 375ºF or until set and lightly browned. Remove to cooling rack to cool completely. Mix sugar and butter until smooth; add milk and extract. Mix well. Add additional milk to reach desired consistency. Adjust sugar and extract to taste. Add food coloring if desired. Frost cookies and top with sprinkles.

The almond extract is the secret ingredient as to why these taste so good. These cookies have been a holiday tradition in my family for three generations. I loved baking them with my mom when I was little. And now, I love making them with my girls.
