Ingredients: 1 1/2 c. powdered sugar 1 c. butter 1 egg 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1/2 tsp. almond extract 2 1/2 c. flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. cream of tartar Frosting: 1 1/2 c. powdered sugar 2 1/2 T. butter 1 1/2 T. milk 1/4 tsp. vanilla or almond extract Food coloring and assorted sprinkles

Directions:In a large bowl, blend sugar and butter, add egg and extracts. In a smaller bowl, mix together dry ingredients; add to butter mixture. Blend well. Refrigerate 2-3 hours. On well floured surface, roll dough to 1/4 in. in batches. Cut with cookie cutters and transfer to baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 7-8 minutes at 375ºF or until set and lightly browned. Remove to cooling rack to cool completely. Mix sugar and butter until smooth; add milk and extract. Mix well. Add additional milk to reach desired consistency. Adjust sugar and extract to taste. Add food coloring if desired. Frost cookies and top with sprinkles. |

Notes: The almond extract is the secret ingredient as to why these taste so good. These cookies have been a holiday tradition in my family for three generations. I loved baking them with my mom when I was little. And now, I love making them with my girls.
