1 c. shortening (or ½ c. each butter and shortening
½ c. confectioners’ (powdered) sugar
1 ¾ c. flour
¼ tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
½ - ⅔ c. chopped pecans or walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
1.Cream together shortening and sugar using an electric mixer.
2.Gradually blend in flour and salt until all is well mixed.
3.Add vanilla and nuts.
4.Form into small balls, about 1” in diameter and place on cookie sheet.
5.Bake at 350°F 10-12 minutes. They will not be very brown.
6.Remove from oven and roll each cookie in the confectioner’s sugar while still warm.
7.Let cool on cookie rack.

I once made these without using the electric mixer and they didn't’t turn out right, so I always use an electric mixer. If you don’t have one, cream the shortening and sugar very well before adding flour and salt.
