1 C. Raisins
1 C. Water
3/4 C. Shortening
2 Eggs
1-1/2 C. Sugar
1 Tsp. Vanilla
2-1/2 C. Flour
1/2 Tsp. Baking Powder
1 Tsp. Baking Soda
1 Tsp. Salt
1 Tsp. Cinnamon
1/2 Tsp. Grd. Cloves
2 C. Oatmeal (quick cooking)
1/2 C. Chopped Nuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Simmer 1 cup of raisins and 1 cup of water in saucepan over low heat until raisins are plump. About 20-30 mins. Drain raisin liquid into measuring cup. Add enough water to make 1/2 cup. Cream shortening, eggs, sugar and vanilla. Stir in the 1/2 C. raisin liquid. Add all the dry ingredients then raisins and nuts. Drop by rounded tsp. about 2" apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 mins. until lightly browned in 400º oven.
