1 1/2 c. tomato juice
3/4 c. distilled white vinegar
1 tbsp plus 1 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp. firmly packed dark brown sugar
1 bay leaf
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. ground red pepper
1/4 tsp. powdered mustard
dash pepper, or to taste
3 lbs. chicken parts, skinned
1 c. thinly sliced onions

Preheat oven 350 degrees. In 1-quart saucepan, combine all ingredients except chicken and onions; cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until flavors are blended, 5 to 10 minutes.
In 13x9x2 baking dish arrange chicken parts in an even layer; top with onion slices, then tomato juice mixture. Bake, basting chicken frequently, until chicken is cooked through, 50 minutes to 1 hour. Remove and discard bay leaf before serving.
