Cream shortening and sugar, add eggs and vanilla. Blend in remaining ingredients. Cover and chill at least 1 hour. Roll dough to 1/8" and cut with cookie cutters. Bake on ungreased baking sheet at 400º, 6 - 8 minutes or until very lightly browned. Makes about 2 1/2 dozen large or 5 dozen small cookies.
Vanilla Butter Frosting: Combine 1/3 c. soft oleo with 3 c. powdered sugar, 1 1/2 t. vanilla and just enough milk to make spreading consistancy. Add food coloring a few drops at a time for desired color.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
My friend Marlene Peak is a very good cook and made beautiful decorated cookies. I got her recipe and attempted to make them when first married. My dough was too dry and wouldn't roll out. She came to my rescue and I did conquer the task and make these for my grandchildren who occasionally help!
