Notes: The original recipe, out of the Fannie Farmer Cookbook was made with ham, but I have also substituted ground beef and tuna, and both work very well. By the same token, I have tried substituting other types of pastas for egg noodles, and have not been happy with the result. Finally, depending on personal taste, you can include the Parmesan cheese in the sauce, or leave it out. For a more balanced meal frozen peas or other frozen vegetables can be cooked with the pasta.
