2 sticks butter;
1 c. sugar;
2 1/2 c. flour;
1 egg, separated;
1 tsp. maple syrup;
1 tsp. cardamom;
1 tsp. vanilla;
1 tsp. soda;
Swedish pearl sugar to sprinkle on top

Directions:
Directions:
Mix everything but the egg white; make a ball and refrigerate a short time. Divide in three or four pieces and roll out snake fashion, placing two per cookie sheet. Flatten with your hand and brush with egg white. Sprinkle with pearl sugar if you can get it (IKEA stocks it). Bake at 350º for about 15 minutes, till just beginning to brown. Cut on a slant (like biscotti) as soon as you take them out of the oven.
