1 stick margarine
1 c. sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1 3/4 c. all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. chopped nuts (hickory nuts are the best)

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400º. Mix margarine and sugar. Beat in vanilla and egg. Sift dry ingredients together; add nuts. Add to sugar mixture. Shape in long rolls (2 inches diameter) on waxed paper and roll paper to cover, folding ends under. Chill in refrigerator several hours or overnight. Slice into 1/4-1/2 inch cookies. Bake on ungreased cookie sheets for 7 minutes.
