1 lb. whole wheat flour
1/2 lb. plain white flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 1/4 cups buttermilk or sour milk

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375º F
Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl making a well in the centre
Pour in enough milk to make a thick dough
Stir well
Dough should be slack but not wet
Add milk if dough is too stiff
With floured hands, transfer dough to a lightly-floured board and flatten into a circle about 1 1/2" thick
Put on baking sheet and make a large cross on top with a floured knife
Bake for approximately 40 minutes, testing with a skewer before removing from oven
If skewer comes out clean the bread is done
