1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
2 eggs well beaten
1 1/2 cups applesauce
2 teaspoons baking soda divided into applesauce
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon all spice
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 cups of raisins

In a large bowl, beat together sugar, butter and eggs.

**Special note: Mary did not have any further directions. The remaining directions were pieced together from recipes found online.**

Add applesauce and baking soda to butter mixture. Mix dry ingredients together in separate bowl. Stir into creamed mixture just until moistened. Fold in raisins. Pour into a greased 8 x 4 inch loaf pan. Bake at 350° for 60-65 minutes (estimate) or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
