1 1/2 C. sugar
1 C. light corn syrup
1/4 C. butter
1/2 tsp. salt
1 C. coffee cream
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Combine all ingredients except vanilla in heavy saucepan. Bring slowly to boiling point, stirring frequently. Cook to 248º or firm ball stage on candy thermometer. Remove from heat and all vanilla and1/2 C. of nuts, if desired. Pour into buttered (metal or tin pan) to depth of 1 inch. When cold, cut around pan edges and turn pan upside down (bang and knock) on back until the caramels come out of pan. Cut into bite-size pieces and wrap each in wax paper.

Mom always bought cow's cream but if you use whipping cream, thin with water (never thin with milk as it will curdle).
