3 qts chopped ripe melons (casaba, cantaloupe, honeydew, etc.)
1 1/2 c pineapple-orange juice
1 1/2 c sweetened lime juice
Pinch of salt
1/2 to 1 c orange or melon liqueur
2 1/2 to 3 c tequila, vodka or rum (optional)
2 L lemon-lime soda, chilled
Ice
Lime and lemon slices

Directions:
Directions:
Put chopped melon into a large bowl.
Combine pineapple-orange juice, lime juice and salt; pour over chopped melon. Let stand for 2 hours or refrigerate overnight.
Mash or crush melons in small batches using a potato masher or blender. press mashed fruit through a food mill or sieve to remove stringy pulp. There should be 9 to 11 cups of juice. Add orange liqueur to melon juice and chill.
To serve, pour melon juice into a large service bowl; add liquor of choice if desired. Pour in chilled soda, float ice and slice fruit. Serve immediately.
