2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
3 eggs
1 tsp. soda dissolved in 1/2 c. warm water
1/4 tsp. salt
3 c. flour
1 tsp. nutmeg
3 fresh apples, diced
1 c. pecans
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening. Beat in eggs one at a time. MIx in soda and warm water, Combine salt and flour and add 1 spoon at a time to creamed mixture. Add all remaining ingredients. Bake in greased and floured tube pan at 300 - 320º for 1 hour.

This recipe was baked often by May (Mrs. Ford) Miller. She and her husband, and son, Dennis, lived in Kenedy for many years. Her sister was Bessie Pfeiffer and neice, Novella Strmiska, The Millers' farm is historic in this part of South Texas.
