3 1/2 cups water, lukewarm
1 cup sugar
1 tbsp. salt

Directions:
Melt shortening; set aside. Dissolve the yeast in 3 1/2 cups lukewarm water. Add sugar & salt. Add enough flour to make thick dough. Add melted shortening. Add enough flour to make dough stiff enough to handle. Pour on floured board and knead until you can stick your finger in and dough doesn't stick. Put in large greased bowl and cover with cloth. Let rise until double in size. Turn out on floured board and knead again. Make out rolls. Bake at 350 degrees 12 to 15 minutes or until brown.

Personal Notes:
I didn't likeThanksgiving foods when I was little, so Mama Polly would bake me a sweet potato, and I would make a meal on that and entirely too many of these delicious rolls -- both swimming in butter!
