1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 cup flour

Combine shortening and salt, add brown sugar and cream thoroughly. Add flour and blend.
Spread mixture in 8 x 12 x 2 inch greased pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 15 minutes or until delicately brown.

Add 1 cup brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla to 2 well-beaten eggs. Beat all together until thick and foamy. Then add 2 tablespoons of flour, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1 1/2 cups of shredded coconut, 1 cup nuts coarsely chopped. Blend all together. Spread over baked mixture. Return to 325 degrees oven. Bake 25 minutes. Cool and cut.
