Crust:
1 1/4 c. fine graham-cracker crumbs,1/4 c. sugar, 6 T. butter/margarine,melted.
Pie:
3/4 c. sugar, 3 T cornstarch, 1/4 tsp. salt, 2 c. milk,
3 slightly beaten egg yolks, 2 T. butter,1 tsp.vanilla.
Meringue:
3 egg whites,1/2 tsp vanilla, 1/4 tsp.cream of tartar, 6 T sugar

Crust:
Combine graham-cracker crumbs, sugar and melted butter, mix. Press firmly into 9 in. pie plate. Bake at 375º for 6-9 min. until edges are browned. Cool.
Filling:
In saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch and salt: gradually stir in milk. Cook and stir over medium heat till bubbly. Cook and stir 2 minutes,. Remove from heat. Stir a moderate amt. of hot mixture into yolks; immediately return to hot mixture; cook 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Add butter and vanilla. Cut 3 bananas into bottom of cooled crust . Pour hot mixture on top of bananas into pie shell.
Meringue:
Beat egg whites with vanilla and cream of tartar till soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar, beating till stiff and glossy peaks form and all sugar is dissolved. Spread meringue over hot filling, sealing to edge of crust. Bake at 350º for 8-12 minutes or until meringue is golden.

If using a 10 inch pie plate, then increase all the crust and filling ingredients slightly except for the eggs in the filling, and the butter in the crust.
