Cake:
1½ Cups sugar
2 eggs
2½ Cups cake flour
1½ Cup oil
1 Cup buttermilk
1 Teaspoon vanilla
1 Teaspoon baking soda
1 Teaspoon vinegar
1 5/8 bottle red food coloring

Icing:
1 stick of butter
½ Cup Crisco
1 Cup sugar
3 Tablespoons flour
2/3 Cup milk
Vanilla to taste
½ Cup powdered sugar

Cake:
Beat eggs, add sugar, oil and vinegar. Sift cake flour and baking soda together. Add milk slowly to flour mixture. Add food coloring and vanilla. Bake 25 minutes at 350 degrees. Makes 3 layers

Icing:
Cream butter, Crisco and sugar. Add flour and beat well. Add milk and vanilla. Beat 8 minutes adding powdered sugar gradually. Spread between layers and on top and sides. Drained chopped cherries or nuts maybe added. This cake keeps well.
