5 Haralson or other variety apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
1 1/2 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold, cut into pieces

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 8 inch cake pan.

Place a layer of apples in pan and sprinkle with lemon juice. Repeat layers until all apples are in pan. Lightly press down on apples to even them.

Process flour, sugar, salt in food processor fitted with steel blade just to combine. Add the butter and process, using repeated pulses, until mixture resembles coarse meal.

Press crumb mixture evenly over apples, making sure edges are well sealed.

Bake until top is golden and apples are tender about 1 hour. Serve warm with ice cream.

Can make with 2/3 apples and 1/3 strawberries. Easy and good.

A favorite, and very easy dessert. Can be made with plums, strawberries or other fruit or combinations.
