Wafers:
1 c soft shortening, part butter
1/3 c thick cream
2 c sifted flour

Filling:
1/4 c soft butter
3/4 c. powdered sugar
1 egg yolk
1/2 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Wafers: Mix wafer ingredients well and chill in refrigerator. Roll out to 1/8 inch thick using 1/3 of the dough at a time and leaving the remaining dough in the refrigerator. Sprinkle generously with sugar and then roll the rolling pin over the top. Cut in small rounds (quarter size) and bake at 350º for 10 minutes.

Filling: Cream butter and sugar; add remaining ingredients and mix well.

Make the cookies by putting the filling between two wafers.
