"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Beginning with lettuce, spread over glass 9x13 inch pan. Continue to sprinkle each layer of vegetables as listed in order of ingredients. Be sure to break frozen peas apart and sprinkle over onion layer which keeps the salad well chilled. Carefully spread the salad dressing over the peas and finally sprinkle grated cheese. Cover tightly with saran wrap or foil and refrigerate overnight or longer. If kept tightly covered, the salad stays crisp for several days.
