1 lb ground beef; 2 large onions, chopped; optional -3 to 6 sliced jalapeņos; 1 or 2 T oil; 1 can, 14.5 oz diced tomatoes; 1 oz approx. chili powder; salt and pepper to taste; 1 to 1 1/2 lbs small elbow pasta

Saute onions (and optional 3-6 sliced jalapeņos) in oil in large, deep skillet. when onions are nearly clear, add ground beef and continue frying, crumbling beef as it cooks. Then add chili powder, stirring and coating well the onions and beef. The mixture should be quite dry. Add salt and pepper and the tomatoes and simmer on low heat stirring occasionally. Cook pasta according to package directions and drain. Add cooked, drained pasta to meat mixture and stir thoroughly often, until only slightly moisture remains. Serve with garlic bread or bread and butter, and a side salad or vegetable.
