Directions:
In 1st bowl, sift together 1 1/2 c. all purpose flour, 9 tbsp. granulated sugar, 2 1/4 tsp. baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt, and 9 tbsp light brown sugar(firmly packed). Form a well & add 1/3 c. Wesson oil, 6 unbeaten egg yolks, 9 tbsp. cold water,1 tsp. maple flavoring. Beat until smooth.
In 2nd bowl, put in 6 egg whites, 1/2 tsp. cream of tarter and beat in stiff peaks. Pour smooth oil mixture over beaten egg whites gradually, gently folding in. Pour immediately into ungreased tube pan. Bake at 325º for 55 mins. until tsp. springs back.
Brown Butter Icing--melt slowly until lightly brown 1/4 c. butter, blend with 1 box 10X sugar, 2 tbsp. cream.1 tsp Wesson oil, 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla. Stir in 1 tbsp. hot water.
Frost cake when cool and cover with 1 c. black walnuts. (You may use self rising flour and leave out the baking soda and salt )
