1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 cup chopped white onion
2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup dry white wine or vermouth (optional)
1 8 ounce bottle clam juice
1 14 1/4 ounce can Italian seasoned diced tomatoes, undrained
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper (optional)
8 ounces halibut fillets, skin removed, cut into 1 inch chunks
1/2 pound medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
2 tsp minced fresh ginger

Directions:

Heat a large deep skillet over medium heat. Add oil and onion; cook for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add garlic; cook for 1 minute, stirring once. Add wine (or vermouth), if using; cook for 30 seconds.

Add clam juice, tomatoes, and crushed red pepper, if using; bring to a simmer.

Reduce heat to medium low; simmer, uncovered, for 8 minutes.

Stir in fish and shrimp. Cook just until opaque, 4 to 5 minutes. Ladle the soup into shallow bowls to serve.
