1 Large head of cabbage
1 Stick of butter
1 Small onion, diced
water

Directions:
Directions:
Wash ham steak and cut into large chunks. Keep the bone to use for flavor.
Remove the old leaves from cabbage and cut into quarters. With a sharp knife, remove the core (hard section) from each piece.
Heat a large pot on medium high and add butter. Let the butter melt and then add onion. Cook onion until translucent and slightly brown, stirring occasionally. Then add ham and small bone. Cook for several minutes until ham starts to turn brown. Add cabbage, salt and pepper to taste and about 1- 1 1/2 cups of water. Bring to a boil and reduce to medium/low. Cover and insert a toothpick between pot and lid. Let cook a few hours until cabbage is wilted and very tender. You may need to add a little water during the cooking process to prevent burning.

Personal Notes:
Lauren, the secret to this cabbage dish is the cooking time between adding each ingredient. By allowing each ingredient time to cook allows the flavors to be enhanced. Keep an eye out for the water. You don't want to dry out but you don't want to much water or you will loose flavor. It may take a few times trying you will master it.
