Directions:Cut any large pieces of steak into roughly 4-inch-wide pieces. Place a single layer of steak in the bottom of a Crock-Pot (or slow cooker). Peel and slice the onion into 1/4-inch-wide rings. Place half the onion rings over the steak. Sprinkle half of the black pepper over the onions. Layer the rest of the steak over the onion rings and top with the remaining onion rings and black pepper (see notes). In a small bowl, combine soup, gravy mix and lukewarm water, and mix well. Pour gravy mixture over the steak, and cover the Crock-Pot. Cook on high heat for 6 hours or low heat for 10 hours. Remove the steak to a large platter, and spoon the gravy over the steak. Serve immediately. Notes: I like to use Campbell's 98% fat-free Cream of Mushroom Soup and McCormick's 30% - less - sodium Brown-Gravy mix. I use a 6-quart Crock-Pot. you may have three layers of steak and onions if your Crock-Pot (or slow cooker) is not the oval-size. Adjust cooking times to accommodate size differences. |

Notes: If you're working and don't have time to tend simmering steak on the stove top, here's one of my favorite time- and labor-saving tools -- the Crock-Pot recipe for county-style steak. This is a fork-tender, moist and delicious country -style steak that would make any grandmother proud -- whether you want it done is six hours (high heat) or 10 hours (low heat). Try it. It's so delicious!!.
